Bio

He/Him

Howard is an emerging Chicano scholar, educator, mentor, activist, and social and environmental justice advocate. Howard began his academic journey at Central New Mexico Community College as a first-generation, nontraditional, generational New Mexican student. He was raised by an independent single mother. Howard brings much living and work experience to academia, which is important to his teaching approach. He has survived and overcome many of life's challenges, which helps with his compassion and understanding of the intersectionality in many cultures he is a part of and teaches about. His transparent and empathetic nature helps students appreciate their self-worth and provides them with the tools needed to coexist in academia and the real world.

Howard has received an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in Chicana & Chicano Studies, and a Master of Arts in Chicana & Chicano Studies. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of Chicana & Chicano Studies. Howard contributed to the Chicana & Chicano field through his thesis, “Nuevomexicana/o Identity Affirmations Through Chicana and Chicano Muralism.” He is currently preparing for his Comprehensive Exams and working towards adding more literature to the scholarship regarding New Mexico art and history.
