Son Jarocho

The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies has opened up the possibility to UNM students of taking a class focused on the afro-mexican genre of son jarocho. In the 2022-2023 year, many students and community members were able to take part in many of the events based around this genre of music. Classes have been and are being instructed by Laura Rebolloso, a PhD student in Chicana/o Studies. Below you will find a short gallery of photos from the Spring 2023 class. There are also photos of the fandango that the son jarocho class culminated to. It took place on May 6th and was opened up to students and community members. Many people came from outside of New Mexico as well to take part in this event.
