Diego Lucero brings his expertise as a media production specialist to the City of Albuquerque, where he showcases his lifelong connection to the region. Born and raised from the vibrant South Valley of Albuquerque, NM, Diego is deeply rooted in his native New Mexican heritage. A dedicated scholar, Diego is currently pursuing his M.A in Chicana and Chicano Studies at the University of New Mexico, building upon his earlier academic achievements, including a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from New Mexico State University.

With nearly two decades of experience as a passionate media producer, Diego has been instrumental in capturing the compelling narratives of his community. Beyond his role as a storyteller, Diego has actively contributed to his community's growth. He has engaged in vital initiatives, collaborating with diverse teams to delve into subjects such as equity and inclusion. Notably, Diego played a role in addressing the concerns surrounding the Oñate Statue within the city, sparking meaningful discussions and sparking his desire for a more profound understanding.

Diego's dedication to community empowerment and historical awareness fuels his pursuit of higher education. By embarking on his journey through the MA program in Chicana and Chicano Studies, Diego aims to amplify the voices of his community through enriched insights into its past and present. As a media artisan and cultural advocate, Diego Lucero's academic endeavor promises to illuminate untold stories and perspectives, weaving a vibrant tapestry of Chicanx culture.

Research Interests

As a graduate student with a strong background in media studies and a deep connection to the cultural landscape of the South Valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Diego’s research interests lie at the intersection of media, identity, and cultural literacy. His academic journey has enlightened him with the critical lens to explore  the Chicana and Chicano experience, particularly in regions like the South Valley, which are rich in cultural history and diversity have impacted Chicanx people in the community. Diego is driven to examine the portrayal and representation of Chicana and Chicano communities in various media forms, including film, television, and digital platforms. Furthermore, his upbringing in the South Valley has instilled in him a profound appreciation for the unique cultural nuances and challenges faced by this community, and  he is  eager to bridge his media expertise with the knowledge gained in the Chicana and Chicano Studies program to engage in a culturally sensitive and empowering project. This project will strive to enhance cultural literacy by shedding light on the multifaceted narratives of Chicana and Chicano individuals, amplifying their voices, and fostering a deeper understanding of their experiences through the lens of media and storytelling.
