Dante Olivas (he/they) is a Nuevo Mexicano from Albuquerque, NM.
As a transfer student, Dante knows first-hand the challenges of being a first-generation, non-traditional transfer student and how navigating those spaces can feel intimidating. His background gives him the knowledge and understanding of how students think moving from a small to a large campus.
As the Program Coordinator for the CNM/UNM Transfer Initiative: NM Humanities NOW!, he knows how to make those connections for students and remind them to ask for help and to say “Yes!” when it comes to unique opportunities. The transfer initiative works with different humanities departments across the College of Arts & Sciences, including American Studies, Chicana and Chicano Studies, English, History; Languages, Cultures, and Literatures; Latin American Studies, Native American Studies, Philosophy, and Spanish and Portuguese.
We also partner with UNM branch campuses and CNM to organize events and recruit students to participate in paid internships with faculty in their chosen fields to establish themselves academically and socially on the main campus.
