Jewell Medina is a Chola-scholar and activist in the PhD program of Chicana and Chicano studies at the University Of New Mexico and founder of Medicine Woman Art and Curandera Nation. Her research interests include Chicana Feminist Cultural Production Of South Texas. Her MA dissertation is entitled Women Who Wake With The Roosters And Other Xicana Sacred Spaces: Our Art Is Our Weapon. Malinches Protest Art Of HB 2281. Jewell is Chicana from Arizona with roots in South Texas and Yaqui Nation AZ. She is the daughter of Guadalupe Chavarria Harriger from Guadalupe, AZ. Her altars have been exhibited in spaces including the Buillion Plaza Globe Az, Santa Fe Cultural Center and Day Of The Dead City Of Phoenix Library Museum. Jewell holds her BA in Women’s Studies and her MA in Social Justice from Arizona State University. Jewell is a student of Benny Medina from the Conjunto Heritage Taller in the tradition of her late father Joe Medina playing the conjunto accordion.
