Marc Anaya is a current student in the hybrid/hyflex Ph.D. program in Chicana & Chicano Studies. Marc serves as a Graduate & Teaching assistant at University of New Mexico where he also completed his masters and graduate certificate in Chicana/o Studies. Marc’s research interest includes Joteria, Gender & Sexuality, Chicanx Identity, praxis of Chicanx language recovery, mental health and wellness. Marc has earned master degrees in; Counselor Education, Ethnic Studies, Chicana & Chicano studies, Educational Leadership, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Marc teaches courses in Ethnic Studies, Chicanx Studies, and College Success. Marc coordinated the First Time In College (FTIC) Initiative at Modesto Junior College 2019-2022, establishing student-centered programming and collaborative learning communities to promote foundational college success for first-time college students. In addition to pursuing his graduate studies at the University of New Mexico, he also serves as a tenured Professor of Ethnic Studies and Counseling for Modesto Junior College. Where he has the distinction of being a part of the inaugural cohort of Ethnic Studies Faculty to establish the department and build the program. As part of his student advocacy and work, he serves as a faculty collaborator for the UndocuAlly, LGBTQ+ Network, Comunidad Affinity Group, Semilla mentor, and M.E.Ch.A. faculty advisor. Marc’s educational philosophy is to engage and inspire students of all abilities to strive toward the achievement of their educational and career aspirations.
